What's different about how Kadejan chickens are raised?
Kadejan chickens are raised naturally in small flocks.

Kadejan chickens are free roaming all the time (never caged) and free range when seasons permit. The space allowed for roaming, whether inside or outside, is what makes the difference in the quality of the meat's texture. (The ability to scavenge for food does not affect the quality of the meat, but the chickens like it.)

Kadejan chickens are fed whole grains. Fish, bakery, or animal by-products are not used in our chickens' feed.

What's different about how Kadejan chickens are processed?

At our processing plant, we do things differently from other USDA processing plants :

• Our chickens are hand eviscerated (cleaned by hand). This results in far less fecal contamination, which is a source of e-coli and other bacteria.

• Our USDA inspector inspects 6 chickens per minute. This also reduces the risk of product contamination. (The industry standard is 32 chickens per minute per inspector.)

• Kadejan chickens are air chilled. The common industry practice is to chill the product in chlorinated water. Moisture is absorbed into the chicken during the water chilling process. The USDA allows processors to sell up to 8% added moisture in whole chickens. (The allowable percentage of moisture is higher in chicken parts). Kadejan chicken contains no added water.

Poultry Production FAQS (frequently asked questions)
FAQ: What is “all natural?”
“All natural” is a claim made by the processor that has no legal definition and has nothing to do with how humanely the chicken has been treated. (Most chickens claiming to be all natural contain up to 8% added moisture. They can also be called all natural if the solution they are injected with is an all-natural solution.

FAQ: What is “free range?”
The USDA's definition of “Free Range” is that the chicken must have the ability to go outside if it wants to.

FAQ: Are chickens fed hormones?
It is illegal to feed hormones to poultry.

FAQ: What about the use of antibiotics?
Drug-resistant infections, some fatal, have been increasing in people across the US. Many scientists attribute this increase to the misuse of antibiotics in both people and animals.
